Review of Tenses (Simple Future and Simple Past)



Simple Future

Simple future tenses is a form of tenses used to make future predictions or promises. The precise moment of the action is unknown or not defined yet. This tenses is often used with the following time expressions:

-          Soon
-          Next month/ year/ week.
-          Tomorrow
-          Later

Formula for this tense are :

a.    Positive

Subject + will + verb + object (s) + time expression

      Examples:
-          I will come to Sigur Ros’ concert tomorrow.
-          They will come and get you soon.


b.    Negative

Subject + will not/ won’t + verb + object(s) + time expression
Examples:
-          She will not understand your feelings, if you don’t express them.
-          You won’t like me when I am angry.

c.    Interrogative

Will + subject + verb + object(s) + time expression?
Examples:
-          Will they get the joke?
-          Will you call a cab for me?

Simple Past

Simple past tense is a form of tenses used to explain things already happened or happened a while ago. The precise moment of the action is known and has passed. The time of the moment must be known. If you cannot indicate when the moment is happened, use present perfect tense instead. This tense is often used with the following time expressions:

-          Last week/ month/ year
-          Yesterday
-          Ago

Formulas for this tense are:

a.    Positive
Subject + past  verb + object (s) + time expression

      Examples:
-          I went to Sigmun’s show last week..
-          Komunal played wildly  yesterday.

b.    Negative

Subject + did not + base verb + object(s) + time expression

Examples:
-          Raisa did not call me last night.
-          Wibnu did not say such a thing yesterday.

c.    Interrogative

Did + subject + base verb + object(s) + time expression?


Examples:
-          Did Johan pick you up last week?
-          Did Aftarisin lie to you about his occupation?
